Crowdfunding platform Indiegogo launches Digital Marketplace for Entrepreneurs and Shoppers

Indiegogo has just announced the opening their own digital marketplace. Just in time for holiday shopping!

This will help vendors sell their personal products and allow customers to shop for items that aren’t available anywhere else. The San Francisco-based company will not only offer their domestic products but items successfully crowdfunded elsewhere. Hosting 800,000 campaigns over the course of nearly 10 years, the online crowdfunding platform has consistently aided in bringing the innovations of a few into the hands of many. Now with the help of their newly established marketplace, backers and sellers alike have the opportunity of maximizing their crowdfunding experience.

“Launching the marketplace is really the last step of that to ensure that — once they have a product — that is ready for purchase.”

-Indiegogo CEO Dave Mandelbrot

Indie will take an estimate of 10-15% of the quoted sales price from each transaction in their store. This is a sharp contrast from competitors such as Kickstarter and Circleup who depend on the shaky Amazon Launchpad for distribution and marketing. Although some of Indie’s products have been available on Launchpad, this move confirms that probably won’t last much longer. It’s safe to assume that this change in momentum is Indie’s attempt to one up on the dominant Amazonian shape shifter. Besides, what “etailer” isn’t competing with Amazon anyway? This move may be just the strategy Indie needed.

Still, Indie isn’t wet behind the ears when it comes to disrupting the crowdfunding arena. Following the policy changes by the Security and Exchange Commission in 2016, they were one of the first platforms to offer equity stakes for their backers; even for unaccredited investors. Moreover, Indie owns Generosity.com which is an exclusive crowdfunding source for personal and social causes. Transforming their already seasoned brand into a digital marketplace where people can enjoy crowdfunded products 24/7 was a huge step in the right direction.

And seriously guys, some of these products are simply awesome like the Batteroo Battery Life Extender for only $9.99 or the smart-mirror beauty assistant, HiMirror, for $199. Check out the marketplace for yourself and let us know what you think!
